Welcome

We do offer many employee activities to do through out the summer such and Trips to see the Colorado Rockies baseball games, trips to Six Flags Elitch Gardens amusement park, rafting trips, mountain biking and hiking.

The Great Rude Awakening: Daven Haven Lodge hosts the locals beginning of season party called "The Great Rude Awakening". This almost always takes place on the third Thursday in May. We love for the staff to arrive by this date to get to know one another and the locals. It is an evening of food, fun and music around a bon fire. Many of the local musicians have eclectic personalities and are a lot of fun to be around - you don't want to miss it!

Season Dates: Beginning the third week in May thru the first weekend in October and hiring priority given to those that can work the entire season.

Job Positions Available at the Lodge

Front Desk Reservations

Ensure guest satisfaction! This includes all aspects of front desk lodge work; guest reservations, including answering phones, providing area information, check-in/check-out of guests, collecting room balance, sending confirmations, guest issues, light book keeping, cashiering, and hostessing. Computer skills required.

  • You will work closely with housekeeping to ensure standards are being met or exceeded through working with housekeeping supervisor.
  • You will also work closely with the dining room servers, hostessing and cashing out the servers.

Must have a professional appearance, be customer service oriented, multi-tasked, motivated, well organized and have excellent external (guests) and internal (staff and organizational) skills. 35 - 40 hrs.

Rate of pay: $8.50-$10/hr (DOE).

Assistant Housekeeping Supervisor

The assistant housekeeping supervisor is essential to ensuring our guests have a clean and well maintained room and works closely with the Head Housekeeping Supervisor. We provide reasonably priced accommodations with outstanding housekeeping standards. It will be your responsibility to ensure the Housekeeping guidelines are being adhered to or exceeded. You are responsible for all duties listed under housekeeping and you will work as an assistant housekeeper as well as providing guidance, direction and some housekeeping supervision:

  • Training and providing feedback and guidance to housekeepers
  • Overseeing that they are adhering to the standards outlined and if not you work with them to help them achieve their responsibilities
  • Ensure duties are done thoroughly and efficiently including end of day inspection on each cabin
  • You will work directly with the Front Desk Staff to ensure guest satisfaction

Rate of pay: $8.50-$12/hr (DOE) 35 - 40 hrs.

Housekeeping

Responsible for cleaning and servicing guest rooms, central bath and lodge including laundry. Maintain and stock supplies. Make note and bring cabin maintenance issues daily to manager. Must become familiar with lodge area, able to answer general questions providing excellent customer care. Attentive to guests and their needs. Reports to housekeeping lead.

Rate of pay: $8.50-$10/hr (DOE) 30-40 hrs.

Maintenance

An energetic person who enjoys working independently with their hands as well as working out doors. Includes light maintenance and repairs, with some general construction skills and experience with power tools. Maintenance may include raking, mowing, and basic lawn and garden care. Must be in good physical condition. This position may involve a few hours of housekeeping on large turnover days.

The maintenance position requires that you have general knowledge in plumbing, carpentry, electrical. Please do not apply if you do not feel comfortable working on your own in any of these areas.

Rate of pay: $9-$12/hr (DOE) 30-40 hrs.

Jobs at the “Back Street Steakhouse”

The Back Street Steak House is at the heart of the operation. We have built a great reputation through excellent service and exceptional food. We are looking for people who care about how each and every plate goes out to the customer. From the preparation of the ingredients, the creation, the presentation and finally the delivery. Most all items are made from scratch and we want it made with care. If you enjoy the process of creating excellent food and enjoy the smiles and satisfaction of your guests we want you to be a part of the dining room family.

Executive Chef

Personality is everything in this position. Many chefs can do the “job”. Not all chefs have the ability to handle the stress. This position requires a hard working hands on person who can easily multi-task. Must have a creative culinary background in the cooking industry, and be proficient in soups and sauces. Long hours, high standards, and a CLEAN kitchen are required. Ability to manage other kitchen staff, time and budget management also required. Teamwork and leadership essential. Responsible for all aspects of the kitchen from scheduling, ordering, and food costs, to food preparation and plate presentation. Our on premise restaurant is open nightly at 5pm. Cooking the line 4 – 5 nights a week is required. Many off and on premise events are scheduled along with the responsibility of the restaurant. Food prep, and cooking for special events are also the responsibility of the head chef. Catering kitchen background is very beneficial. Time off and fun are also important, needed and respected. This is a position that we would like to fill as a seasonal, returning position. A minimum of 7 years of experience required. Some of these years in a non-corporate environment. Definitely a NO DRUGS environment. Minimum 40 hr week. Average 45 – 58 hr weeks.
Salaried position DOE

Executive Sous Chef

Can step in and handle the responsibility of the head chef at any given time. Is able to work long hard hours under stressful situations as well as the easygoing ones. Is also a team leader and creative in several areas of the culinary arts. Shares responsibility daily in making sure the kitchen is organized and CLEAN at the end of the day, this is a priority. Skilled in all aspects of the line including, saute, fry, grill, steaks, seafood and so on. Responsible for timely and successful presentation of all dinner menu items, including nightly specials and daily soup. Able to work in a fast paced environment, be well organized, and have excellent cleaning / sanitation standards, and most importantly have a good and positive attitude. Must have at least 5 years experience. Kitchen Catering background is very beneficial. This is a NO DRUGS environment.
Rate of pay: Salaried (DOE) for Sous Chef

Prep-Cook and Line Cook

Assists the Executive & Sous Chef in all areas of daily restaurant & special event preparations. Includes sauces, saute, fry, grill, garnish, and baking. Must be well organized, have excellent cleaning/sanitation standards with ability to follow and read recipes.
Rate of pay: $8.50/hr-$10/hr (DOE)

Pantry Cook

In charge of preparing Salads, Deserts, and Cold Appetizers for the wait staff. Must be well organized and able to multitask in a fast paced environment. Helping with evening food preparation and occasional banquets. Helps out the dishwasher by giving an extra hand when needed. Excellent cleaning/sanitation standards able to follow and read recipes. This is an evening shift.
Rate of pay: $8.50 - $10 (DOE) 30 - 35 hrs

Dishwasher

The Backbone of the kitchen keeps everything running smooth, clean and neat, with the sanitation and organization of the kitchen. Main duties include, cleaning and putting away all dishes, emptying trash, breaking down boxes, stocking kitchen orders, loading/unloading catering vehicles. Also may be asked to assist in food preparation and salad/dessert station.
Rate of pay: $8.50-$10/hr (DOE)

Caterer (Part Time)

Catering on and off premise events is a BIG part of our food services at Daven Haven. Wedding receptions take place every weekend during the summer. Many of our staff enjoy the additional income of being a server at these events. Though this is not a full time position it can easily supplement your income if you are hired for a position that is scheduled for 30 hours or less per week.
Rate of Pay: $7-$10/hr + Tips (DOE)

 

Dining Room Manager

Manages the employees and activities of the dining room. Ensures proper food quality and dining room cleanliness. Requires at least 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with a variety of hospitality concepts, practices and procedures. Relies on exerience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks while leading and directing the work of others.
Rate of Pay:$10-$12/hr (DOE)

 

Host / Hostess

The Host/Hostess is responsible for greeting the guest in the most
positive and professional manner upon their entrance of the Back Street Steakhouse. A warm and hospitable personality must be maintained throughout the evening with all guests and you must be familiar with all food and beverage items on the menu as well as nightly specials. It is your responsibility to make each guest’s visit a memorable one.
Rate of Pay: $8.50 - $10 (DOE) 30 hrs per week

 

Bartenders

Experience required and you must be 21 years old and willing to get a TIPS certification. More than excellent people skills. Multi task duties include daily bar setup and breakdown, servicing restaurant wait staff with drinks and taking and serving dinner orders in the lounge and/or patio. You must be an excellent server, efficient, friendly, professional, and knowledgeable on all menu items including beer, wine and spirits selection. You must be able to tell how menu items are prepared and merchandise items to guests. You must be able to suggestively sell appetizers, beer, wine and desserts as well as up selling alcoholic beverage items. You must be well organized and have excellent cleaning and sanitation standards. You can make excellent tips here and are expected to tip out 10-15% to bussers per shift.
Rate of Pay: $4/hr + tips 35 – 40 hours

Servers

Experience is required and you must be 21 years old and willing to get a TIPS certification. The server’s #1 priority is the guest. You must be an excellent server, efficient, friendly, professional, and knowledgeable on all menu items including beer and wine and spirits selection. You must be able to explain how items are prepared and merchandise items to guests. You must be able to suggestively sell appetizers, beer, wine and desserts. You can make excellent tips here and you will be expected to tip out a total of 20% of your tips to the bartender & bussers per shift.
Rate of pay: $4/hr + tips 30 - 35 hrs per week

Backwaiter (Busser) / Food Runner

You must be an excellent "helper" who is efficient, friendly, professional, and knowledgeable on all menu items including beer and wine selection (training will be provided). Assist waiter/waitress in serving guests, clearing and resetting tables, and maintaining cleanliness in the dining room. Expedites food service for the lounge and patio.
Rate of pay: $4/hr (DOE) + tips

 

Personal appearance is of great importance since most employees have constant contact with the visiting public. If employed as representatives of Daven Haven Lodge, you will be expected to present a clean and well-groomed manner at all times. Both male and female employees that are in front of the house positions (where they meet the public) may not have hairstyles that are extreme. Beards and sideburns must be neat and closely trimmed.

Nose, eyebrow, or tongue jewelry is not permitted. Tattoos must be covered.

General Seasonal Staff Information

Room & Board: Limited employee housing is available if you choose to live on premise.  We offer camping cabins to those wanting to save on housing costs.  However, you must be employed full time to be considered for this housing.  These cabins are small one room cabins housing two employees each.  There is electricity though no running water.  Staff showers and restrooms are a few steps away.

A $250 housing deposit is required (and must be received by May 1st and will be refunded at the end of the season based on the condition of the housing unit and grounds over the summer, end of season clean up and completing your work contract dates. This deposit will be returned to you no later than 30 days after your last work day with us. Housing is charged at $200/month for a shared room, $300/month for a small private room (when available). You are responsible for your own food (a small general store and Laundromat is 3 blocks away). Wireless internet access is available in the main lodge lobby or at the Library located in the center of town.

If you prefer the modern conveniences please let us know at time of hire as we will try and procure some local housing for staff if desired. These rents are a minimum of 2 - 4 persons per cabin/house and run $200 - $400 per month/person. This is the only alternative to camping cabins for lodging once on site housing is filled.

Daven Haven Lodge Insists on a few rules in employee housing areas

  • Possession of a firearm of any kind is prohibited
  • Possession of narcotics is strictly prohibited. Violation will result in termination
  • We have quiet hours from 10pm until 8am. We simply ask that you respect your fellow employees and guests right to a good night’s sleep.
  • Non-employees are not allowed in staff housing unless the employee they are visiting accompanies them.
  • Underage drinking is prohibited and will not be tolerated in staff housing. The legal age of consumption in Colorado is 21 years of age.
  • Grounds around your cabin must be kept clean and debris free at all times.

Hours & Pay: If you are a dishwasher, Front Desk Representative or Dining Room Host, you will work an average of 25-30 hours per week in that department. To get you up to 40 hours per week, we may schedule you in housekeeping, bussing or kitchen help. Please let us know as soon as possible if you do not wish to have these extra hours.

Your first paycheck will be delayed two weeks after your first pay period so you may not get a check until (no later than) 4 weeks after your first day of work. Please be financially prepared for this at the beginning of the season.

If you are living in housing provided by Daven Haven Lodge or the Backstreet Steakhouse, we require that you are scheduled at least 35 hours per week with us once the season takes off before seeking supplemental income with another establishment.

Most everyone will get only part time hours until mid-June when the season kicks off. During this time, you will be helping in all areas of our business. This usually includes light grounds maintenance, painting, spring cleaning the cabins, etc. This is the perfect time to get to know one another and also to get to know Grand Lake and what it has to offer.

If you are staying with us through September, your hours will begin to decrease after Labor day as the season comes to a close. It will be beneficial, however, that we delay our payroll two weeks, as you will get your final check 2 weeks after your departure.

We are registered with the State of Colorado as a "seasonal" employer. With this status, you will not be eligible to collect any unemployment benefits after your employment with us. When you arrive, you will be asked to sign a work/housing contract for the dates you can commit to.

Training: About 80% of our staff will participate in a week of Food and Beverage Training which takes place in the last week of May. This is mandatory if you are hired in any position in the front of the house. We do like to cross train our staff so that any employee will be able to jump in and help in any situation. Many of you will supplement your income by helping with our Catering department so the training is extremely valuable.

Transportation

You are responsible for your own transportation and related costs. Daven Haven Lodge is 2.5 hours from Denver in the Town of Grand Lake at the western entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. Having a bicycle is a great way to get around town.
