Turtle Races
Unfortunately, Daven Haven Lodge has decided that we will no longer host the Turtle Races. After 25 years of such a fantastic event, we have decided to retire the tracks! For all of those that participated in the past, thank you for your support and for those who have never participated, keep hope that maybe another local business will pick up the tradition.
Celebrated annually on the third Sunday of August this is the largest sporting event held in the Village of Grand Lake each summer. Local and out of town racing crews start talking up and training their turtles for a fast paced afternoon of cheers and tears. Saturday night the eve before race day, we sacrifice the virgin turtle to the volcano thus ensuring good weather for race day. Immediately following the crowning of the king and queen the racing crews and their turtles parade down main street, showing off what they hope to be this years winner and inviting the public to come and join in the festivities. Outrageous trophies and awards handed out for best costumes and winners of each year’s event. If your vacation plans are flexible this is a great time to join us for a weekend of wacky, wonderful fun.
